Dawn’s Story – If there were no Emmaus House, we would all be dead.

I had used for 30 years, but I was tired. I was living in New Jersey and they wanted $30,000 for a rehab program. I could never pay that! I came to Michigan to meet my husband’s mother and had 37 days clean, but no place to stay. I was out of options when someone introduced me to Sister. I told her my story and she let me come to Emmaus House. I followed all the rules. It is a spiritual program that gives you a chance. Jail and prison do not help. No one else gives you a chance at life, a better life. I am truly blessed because of Emmaus House. Now I am out on my own and feel truly grateful every day.  

Tausha’s Story – I never had a spiritual life until I came to Emmaus House.

I shoved all of my problems down and didn’t deal with them. This led to drugs and alcohol. When I got to Emmaus House, I had little hope and no belief. Emmaus House believed in me. Emmaus House gave me structure, independence and life-style changes. There are not many places where they give you an opportunity to work on yourself. That’s what I needed to do; work on my inside. I have learned more compassion, caring and have more conscience. If you put work into it, hard and continuous work, it changes you. I have changed life habits, become healthier, go to church, and sponsor people in the program. I am happier and more hopeful. I never want to go back.
